Jay-Z:n äiti Gloria Carter ei ollut innoissaan siitä, että hänen poikansa kertoisi biisillään hänen olevan lesbo. Jay-Z kuitenkin teki ja julkaisi kappaleen Smile, joka löytyy kesäkuussa julkaistulta albumiltaan 4:44.
Kappaleella Jay Z räppää siitä, miten hänen äitinsä kätkee seksuaalisuutensa.
Nyt julkitulleiden tietojen mukaan Carter oli sanonut julkkispojalleen, että hän ei missään nimessä salli kappaleen julkaisua.
Jay Z, joka on Beyoncen puoliso, räppää Smile kappaleessan näin:
”Mama had four kids, but she’s a lesbian/Had to pretend so long that she’s a thespian.
Had to hide in the closet, so she medicate/Society shame and the pain was too much to take.
Cried tears of joy when you fell in love/Don’t matter to me if it’s a him or her.
I just wanna see you smile through all the hate/Marie Antoinette, baby, let ’em eat cake”.
Jay Z kertoi Rap Radarin haastattelussa, että äitinsä kiellosta huolimatta hän halusi julkaista kappaleen, koska koki sen tärkeäksi.
– Niin monet ihmiset maailmassa piilottelevat näitä asioita. Olen todella iloinen siitä mitä hänestä on tullut … Se on yksi ylpeimmistä lauluistani, kertoi Jay Z.
Jay Z:n lisäksi hänen äitinsä on myös äänessä kyseisellä biisillä. Ja näin äiti räppää:
